A little about our life on Kilimanjaro.
The main weight, which is groceries and camping equipment, is carried by the porters. There are many of them. About 40 people for our group of 9 (guides, physicians, cooks, carriers).
They get the camp ready, look after us and cook our meals. This turns the tough climbing into a European style tourism.
It's the only way for the locals to make a living. So the carry heavy weight to the top. And even this job is not permanent, only during the high season. How they manage to survive off season, I don't know.
